In the present invention, there is described the use of an essential fatty acid, particularly one beyond the 6-desaturation step in the n-6 and n-3 metabolic pathways, and a biocompatible disulphide, particularly alpha-lipoic acid for the preparation of a medicament intended for treating or preventing diabetes, insulin resistance or diabetes complications.
