: A method for providing device driver code so as to permit an existing Operating System to configure itself to communicate with the device driver code comprising the steps of: . using a computer system having a memory, display, storage media, a CD-ROM drive and/or floppy disk drive, an input/output system, and an add-device tool; b. inputting into the computer the device driver code and related information, the device driver code and related information being stored in one or more files, and entering a pointer to a source path for the operating system and a pointer to an answer file for the operating and c. executing a code mechanism in the add-device tool to modify the answer file for the operating system and to modify OS installation files for the operating system based upon the device driver code and information; whereby the operating system can subsequently configure itself to communicate with the device 20 driver.
