The invention relates to a method for measuring the speed of a vehicle fitted with an antenna and travelling on a track with two rails in the form of track sections (1, 2, 3), known as block systems which are separated by electric joints, whereby each electric joint is made up of two tuning blocks (TU.F1 and TU.F3) and a predetermined track section located therebetween, whereby power coupling is provided for the adjacent track section acting as a block system by each of the tuning blocks (TU.F1 and TU.F3). The invention is characterized by detection of at least two discontinuities in the current or in the voltage of the signal as seen by an antenna which is present in the vehicle travelling on said track. The invention also relates to an installation for carrying out the inventive method.
