A device (84) for hair care for use in grooming hair, comprising a portion (86) of an elongate body terminating in a handle (88); at least one element (90) hair styling supported by said elongated body portion and operable to retain the hair and make brushing thereof; a directional coupler (12) supported adjacent said hair styling member and having a pair of first and second strips (14a, 14b) generally parallel defining a coupling gap (16) therebetween; characterized by a generator of high frequency signal (22) operable to generate signals in the VHF frequency band to UHF, electrically coupled to said first strip and operable to couple voltage to said second strip, the hair placed being across said coupling gap to thereby generate a coupled power signal in said second strip having an amplitude related to health of the hair.
