An apparatus for detecting the emotional state of an individual, the apparatus comprising: an operable voice analyzer for analyzing a voice segment of a sampled voice specimen (32) generated by the individual, and for deriving directly from the same intonation information , wherein said intonation information includes at least one among information corresponding to the number of peaks within the voice segment, information corresponding to the number of plateaus within the voice segment and information corresponding to the length of the plateaus within the voice segment; and an issuer of reports on emotions, operable to generate an indication of exit of the emotional state of the individual, based on said intonation information; in which a peak is a characteristic in the voice specimen that includes a sequence of first sample, middle sample and third adjacent sample; both the first sample and the third sample are higher or lower than the average sample; and in which a plateau is a flat segment in the voice specimen, in which the length of the flat segment is greater than a predetermined minimum threshold, and is less than a predetermined maximum threshold, and in which a difference in amplitude between Consecutive samples in the flat segment is less than a predetermined amplitude threshold.
