The present invention discloses a system and method of processing a namedrange defined by a celladdress range in a spreadsheet comprising a plurality of cells identified ineach dimension by anaddress, each dimension comprising two directions. The method comprises thesteps of defining anopen named range by specifying to the named range at least one open direction;defining a hiddennamed range with the cell address range of the open named range expanded byone address in everydirection specified as open. In response to an user action, the methodcomprises the further stepsof selecting at least one direction; increasing the cell address range of thehidden named range byinserting between two consecutive cell addresses, a new address in selecteddirections; updating theopen named range with the cell address range of the hidden named rangeshortened by one addressin every direction specified as open.
