A method and system for performing a ser-vice on a home network, by: connecting a first anda second home device to the home network; provid-ing a database including a plurality of applicationinterface description data objects, where each ap-plication interface description data object includesinformation in a structured format for commandingand controlling of a home device by one or moreother home device connected to the network; thesecond home device accessing a first application in-terface description object for the first home devicein the database; the first home device accessing asecond application interface description object forthe second home device in the database; sendingcontrol and command data from the first home de-vice to the second home device utilizing the secondapplication interface description object over the net-work; and sending control and command data fromthe second home device to the first home deviceutilizing the first application interface descriptionobject over the network. Whereby, the first andsecond home devices perform said service.
