METHOD OF PROTECTING WOOD THROUGH ENHANCED PENETRATION OF WOOD PRESERVATIVES AND A RELATED SOLUTION

A method of protecting wood through enhanced penetration of wood preservativesincludes providing a solution including (a) at least one amine oxide. (b) atleast one organicwood preservative and (c) a buffering agent. The solution preferably has a pHof about 7 to10. The solution is applied to the surface of the wood after which, with orwithoutintervening storage, the materials are activated to effect enhancedpenetration of the organicwood preservative into the wood. One may effect application at a solutiontemperature ofabout 30 to 75°C and preferably about 50 to 60°C to effectactivation at a higher temperatureand high relative humidity. In a preferred practice, the wood may be heatedbefore and/orafter application of the solution. The solution is also disclosed as aproduct.
