A fuel cell which does not discharge fuel gas supplied to an anode (22)thereof to the outside at least during normal power generation having a gasdiffusion layer (15) of a conductive porous material stacked on the anode (22)and having fuel gas flow passages therein through which fuel gas is suppliedto the anode (22); a sealing part (16) dispose around the gas diffusion layerfor preventing leakage of the fuel gas to the outside of a single cell (10); agas supply part (52) for supplying the fuel gas; and a first fuel gas supplyflow passage formed by a gap between at least a part of a periphery of the gasdiffusion layer (15) and the sealing part (16) for supplying the fuel gassupplied from the gas supply part (52) to the gas diffusion layer (15).
