A SEGMENT ENCODING EXTENDED METHOD FOR REALIZING RANGE MATCH WITH TERNARY CONTENT ADDRESSABLE MEMORY

A segment encoding extended method for realizing range match with ternary content addressable memory, which is adapted to range match with Ternary Content Addressable Memory (TCAM) in network devices, is characterized in: dividing the field to be perform range match to more than one segments, introducing a extended function which can represent any range within each segment by using entry table of TCAM, then using the said extended function to extend each segment, thus realizing range match with TCAM applied to the aspects of Access Control List or QoS by segmenting and encoding the said field. The present invention can realize range match with TCAM simply and effectively, and not only support range match of port, but also support range match of IP address, also have high searching efficiency, independence of rule base, support any range, low extended coefficient, not occupy additional TCAM space.
