The invention provides means and methods for diagnosing, typing and treating conditions associated with an oxidative phosphorylation deficiency. The invention further provides assembly chaperones, specifically incorporated in a medicament and in a cosmetic composition, and uses thereof for complexes involved in oxidative phosphorylation. Furthermore the invention provides means and methods for testing compounds for increasing the amount of a complex involved in oxidative phosphorylation.
