Provided are a dietary supplement and a pharmaceutical composition which prevent and treats apoplexy by protecting the nerve cell of brain from damage by using caryophyllene or its derivatives. The dietary supplement comprises 0.1-20 wt% of a caryophyllene derivative selected from the group consisting of caryophyllene or isocaryophyllene, alpha-caryophyllene(cis-caryophyllene), caryophyllene oxide, caryophyllene alcohol and caryophyllene acetate; and a sitologically acceptable food additive. The pharmaceutical composition comprises a caryophyllene derivative selected from the group consisting of caryophyllene or iso caryophyllene, alpha-caryophyllene(cis-caryophyllene), caryophyllene oxide, caryophyllene alcohol and caryophyllene acetate; and a pharmaceutical acceptable carrier.
