A TCP handler and a method for detecting a defective punching hole therefor are provided to prevent production of TCP defective by detecting a defective position of the punching hole. A punching unit punches a TCP(Tape Carrier Package) from a carrier tape(5) after test. A camera unit takes an image for a punch hole(53) formed by the punching. A position information gaining member gains information position of the punch hole from image data of the punch hole taken by the camera unit. A defective position detecting member compares the position information of the punch hole with reference position information to detect a defective position of the punch hole.
