METHOD FOR ANALYZING A FAILURE MECHANISM

A method for analyzing a failure mechanism is provided to clearly define a description method of failure factors included in the failure mechanism of a failure mode mechanism diagram and easily reuse all failure mechanism information described in the failure mode mechanism diagram to failure analysis of similar items. The failure mode mechanism diagram is made by hierarchically displaying causes of a failure mode to be analyzed as a causal relationship among the item, the failure factor, and the failure mode(102). The made failure mode mechanism diagram is converted into structured knowledge(104). The structured knowledge is accumulated in a storage device(106). Other failure modes to be analyzed are searched by utilizing the accumulated knowledge and the failure mode mechanism diagram for the searched failure mode is automatically generated(108). The failure factor is one of a design failure factor, a process failure factor, and stress.
