The unit has a gas generator connected indirectly with housing (10), where an exhaust area (34) of the generator is provided within the housing. A guide unit (16) is movable with respect to the housing using a servo unit. The guide unit conducts a portion of gases coming from the generator through an exhaust in an opened condition. The guide unit is arranged in direct proximity to the exhaust area and partially surrounds the area. The guide unit is held by the dynamic gas pressure in the opened position.
