The firearm has a trigger (2) to actuate the hammer (3). When the hammer is in the firing position, an electrical signal is produced to control a laser (4) which simulates a shot being fired. An acceleration sensor (5) is used to produce the electrical signal for the laser. The acceleration sensor can detect movement caused by the shock of the hammer movement. The sensor can selectively detect acceleration parallel to the firearm alignment.
