The vacuum cleaner has a housing (2) mounted on rollers (5) and containing an electric motor (9) in a detachable section to drive a fan (11). The housing also contains an extendable cable (14) for the electric motor. The cable has one end sealed behind the housing, from which a feed to the motor extends. The inner end of the cable is accessible by removal of the cover (16) which closes an opening in the housing.
