The method involves positioning and orienting a model of humans relative to a seat in a vehicle. A selected body part-model is moved independent of the desired movement, such that each relative movement of the model is an allowable relative movement. The allowable movements are determined by use of dependence direction. The distance between a human model and a component model is computed and is used as a forecast distance. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product that is stored on a computer readable medium and having program units that are readable by a computer to implement a method of forecasting a distance between humans, who sit in a vehicle on a seat, and a component of the vehicle, when the product runs on the computer (2) a digital storage medium with electronically readable control signals, which cooperate with a programmable data-processing system (3) a data processing system for forecasting of the distance between humans, who sit in a vehicle on a seat, and a component of the vehicle.
