The device (10) has a reception device (15) to receive rod-shaped articles (14) from a rod-shaped product manufacturing machine. A removal device (16) removes the articles from the reception device and delivers the articles to a storage and/or transport device (11). The reception and the removal devices are formed in such a manner that the articles that are isolated from the manufacturing machine, are taken over and the articles, which are isolated from the reception device, are removed under avoidance of mass flows, and the articles are transferred to the storage and/or transport device. An independent claim is also included for a method of filling a storage and/or transport device, which is formed for accommodating a set of unsorted rod-shaped articles.
