The holding device has a spare wheel (3) arranged at an external side of a boot lid (4). A single or a multi-link hinge (1) pivotably mounts the boot lid and the spare wheel at a pivoting axis (5) in a vehicle body (8). A holder (2) retains a rear flap and the spare wheel. The boot lid forms an even surface with the vehicle body in a closed position. The pivoting axis is horizontally arranged opposite to the vehicle body.
