Biaxially oriented polyester film comprises a base layer comprising at least 80 wt.% of a polyester comprising 55-95 mole% of units derived from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and 5-45 mole% of units derived from an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid. An independent claim is also included for producing a polyester film as above by producing a mono- or multilayer film by extrusion or coextrusion, biaxially stretching the film and thermofixing the stretched film.
