The method involves controlling a quantity controlling valve (30) of an internal-combustion engine (20) of a motor vehicle for controlling an amount of a fuel e.g. diesel, discharged by a high-pressure pump (40) to a fuel storage (25). The valve is controlled by a controller (35) with a test equipment (50) in an operating point with an operating parameter for providing an amount of fuel for the engine. Characteristic of the valve is adapted such that a desired amount of the fuel is provided. The point is varied and the characteristic is adapted such that the desired amount is provided. An independent claim is also included for a system for adapting characteristic of a quantity controlling valve of an internal-combustion engine of a motor vehicle.
