A Hall sensor (6) detects a magnetic field strength/magnetic field direction and links to evaluatory electronics. Two sensors fasten on a printed circuit board (5) and interconnect in a measuring bridge. A selector lever (1) has a ball-and-socket joint (2) linked to it and a cylindrical extension (3). The selector lever has a system of coordinates, i.e. X, Y and Z axes. An independent claim is also included for a method for recognizing the angular position of a selector lever.
