In vehicle road traffic information display system indicates the state and location of traffic congestion in changing colour segments

The road traffic congestion condition is determined using traffic information [18] together with a GPS based location system [11] that is used in a control unit [21] together with map data [16]. Output is sent to an in vehicle display [19] that uses segments with periodic colour changes to indicate the changes in the location and state of the congestion delay.
