The method involves determining a surface structure of a cylindrically curved inner surface (601) or outer surface of a work-piece by an optical measuring sensor (610) attached to a probe body of a measuring probe. A gap between the sensor and the surfaces of the work-piece in a measuring area is filled with a liquid (631), which is transparent to measuring radiation. The measuring area is cleaned using a cleaning device (630) before or during measuring, where the surfaces of the work-piece are rinsed with the liquid during cleaning of the measuring area. An independent claim is also included for a measuring system for measuring a surface of a work-piece.
