A device for measuring the filling state of liquids in containers consists of a cascade of measuring probes on two or more flat, rigid or flexible plates having along the length of the device up to three measuring surfaces serving as capacitors (101 - 103), having measuring, reference and full capacitance, which are used for determining the filling state over a specific temperature range and differentiating between different filling media via electronic circuitry (106). Independent claims are included for: (A) a corresponding control and evaluation plate, comprising input circuits (107) in a number corresponding to the capacitors and with monostable tilting stages, a microcomputer as evaluation unit (108) and a conventional output stage; and (B) a corresponding measuring method, in which capacitances are measured conventionally, where measurements of the discharge time of a particular capacitor are only carried out after triggering the input circuit (107) by the evaluation unit (108).
