A control system for a clip machine, especially for a sausage machine in which the sausage sections of a string are secured by clips applied by clip fastening tools (112, 114). The clips are supplied in a continuous form wound from a reel and with an identifying tag (140) on the reel read by a monitoring system, e.g. CCTV, RFID. The clip identity is linked to the identifying marks on the crimp tools to ensure accurate application of the clips, and enables the user to rapidly change clip size and tools.
