Acoustic damping mat for vehicle construction with integral areas of specific damping to match localized requirements

An acoustic damping mat for applying to vehicles, e.g. to sound proof the bulkhead between the driving position and the engine, has areas of varying damping characteristics to match the localized acoustic requirements. The variable damping areas are produced by incorporating resins etc. into the mat and/or by including air pockets (3, 4) into the mat. At least one side of the mat is covered with a sealing film, e.g. using PW, PP or PVC.
