The procedure for the operating of steam power plant entails producing steam (D) in a boiler (3), passing it through a turbine (5) and condensing it in a condenser (7). The condensate (K) thereby gained is preheated and directed back to the boiler as feed water (S). For the preheating the condensate is divided into a first (K1) and a second (K2) partial flow, the first partial flow is preheated and the second partial flow added to it. The first partial flow is preheated by steam bled (A1,A2) from the turbine. An Independent claim is included for a steam power plant which has a bypass line (17) bypassing the preheating system (15) so that the preheating system is charged only with the first partial condensate flow. The preheating system is connected to the turbine by a steam tapping (19A,19B).
