Production of anisotropic metal nanoparticles for use as catalysts, e.g. for hydrogenation, involves mixing an aqueous solution of Group 8, 9 or 10 metal compound with surfactant and then adding reducing agent
A method for the production of anisotropic metallic nano-particles (I), involves (a) mixing an aqueous solution containing source(s) of a Group 8, 9 or 10 metal with at least one soluble surfactant and (b) forming nano-particles (I) by adding reducing agent(s) (RA). Independent claims are included for (1) a process in which the suspension from stage (b) (or the dried material (I) obtained from the suspension, or resuspended (I)) is activated under hydrogen at below 600[deg]C (2) processes involving the use of (I) as catalyst, comprising catalytic reforming of hydrocarbons, total or selective hydrogenation, dehydrocyclisation, dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and the total or selective oxidation of carbon monoxide (3) a method for the storage of gas using solid material containing (I) (with or without a support) (4) a method for the separation or adsorption of molecules using solid material containing (I) (with or without a support) .
