PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene cluster and a group of enzymes involving oxidative decomposition passage of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB)/polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and to provide a utilization method in environmental purification field thereof. PSOLUTION: A method for decomposing PCB comprises acquiring a gene encoding and subunits of a new aromatic ring dioxygenase and having a specific amino acid sequence, a gene encoding a dihydrodiol dehydrogenase and further a gene encoding a dioxygenase cleaving an aromatic ring from a bacterium of the genus Paenibacillus and using an enzymatic protein derived from these genes.
