PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a lead storage battery, paste paper for a lead storage battery and an electrode plate for a lead storage battery which can prevent problems such as a dendrite short circuit and a decrease of electrolyte solution or the like caused by heavy metals without raising any harmful effect such as causing deterioration of other characteristics and without resorting to any special treatment or controlling on the battery by grasping a heavy metal group raising problems to the storage battery especially lead causing a dendrite short circuit and antimony causing a decrease of electrolyte solution, and provide a storage battery provided with the above. PSOLUTION: The separator for a lead storage battery is composed of a fine porous sheet containing a heavy metal absorbing agent made of a rare earth compound which has a high heavy metal absorbing property in a neutral region and a low heavy metal absorbing property in an acid region. In a thickness direction of the sheet, the heavy metal absorbing agent is unevenly distributed and there are formed a layer containing the heavy metal absorbing agent extending in a horizontal direction of the sheet and a layer substantially not containing the heavy metal absorbing agent.
