PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali-soluble maleimide based copolymer which can easily form a uniform coating film having excellent thermal yellowing resistance and high hardness, and excellent in solubility in a solvent and of which the uncured part is sufficiently soluble in an alkaline water, a resin composition containing the copolymer and curable by ionizing radiation, and a color filer and a liquid crystal display which are formed by using the resin composition. PSOLUTION: The alkali-soluble maleimide based copolymer comprises essentially 5-50 mass% of cyclohexyl maleimide monomer units, 8-30 mass% of (meth) acrylic acid monomer units, and 30-87 mass% of (meth)acrylic ester monomer units, wherein the mass% X of the cyclohexyl maleimide monomer units and the mass% Y of the (meth)acrylic acid monomer units satisfy the relation of the formula: 0.4×X≤Y≤0.5×X+10.
