PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record mass data responding to the needs of a user while reducing the manufacturing cost of a video recording and reproducing device, and also to effectively utilize a storing means provided in a database server. SOLUTION: This video recording and reproduction system records moving image data in a user hard disk 15 provided in a video recording and reproducing device 1, transmits overflowed moving image data to the database server 3 through a communication network 2 to store the overflowed moving image data in a contents storing part 4 provided in the database server 3, when an overflow of moving image data occurs in the user hard disk 15, retrieves overlapped moving image data in the contents storing part 4, and performs data merging processing that eliminates either of the overlapped data.
