In a commercial aircraft with a main floor (2) and a lower floor (5, 6), at least one passenger cabin (16, 16) is also provided on the lower floor. The fuselage diameter is in the order of a wide body aircraft, and an energy absorbing strain structure (22, 23, 24) is arranged below the lower deck cabin. The invention proposes to arrange the wings (7) in the aircraft fuselage according to the semi-high wing configuration, and to arrange the landing gear (10) around the fuselage such that the landing gear compartments are separated from each other by a certain distance that is defined by the position of the lower lengths (9). This may provide that the lower floor volume below the main floor can be optimally used for payloads.
