INHIBITORS OF HIV-1 CAPSID FORMATION: ARIL AMINOMETIL TIAZOL REPLACED UREAS AND ANALOGUES OF THESE. Substituted aryl aminomethyl thiazole and analogues thereof which act as inhibitors of viral capsid formation, including HIV capsid formation, are provided herein. Generally, inhibitors of viral capsid formation described herein are compounds of formula (I) wherein A is a group of formula (a) or (b) wherein the variables A, R 1, R 2, R ~ 3 ~, R ~ 4 ~, X, Y, Z, A ~ 5 ~, A ~ 6 ~, A ~ 7 ~, R ~ 8 ~, R ~ 9 ~, R ~ 12 ~, and R ~ 13 ~ are defined here. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising such compounds and methods of treating animals infected with a virus having the capsid protein are provided herein. Methods of using such compounds to treat human patients infected with an HIV virus and to reduce AIDS mortality are also provided herein.
