A method for optimised pneumatic joining of threads or yarn comprises the steps of introducing threads (12, 15) to be joined into a joining chamber (11) of a pneumatic joining device (10) ; locking the threads (12, 15) entering into the device (10) ; cutting the ends of the threads (12, 15) ; untwisting the ends of the threads (12, 15) ; pulling the cut and open ends of the threads (12, 15) in the direction of the joining chamber (11) and performing the joining through compressed air, in which at least one step of intercepting the threads (12, 15) of adjustable size is carried out between the introduction step and the untwisting step through at least two interception levers (32, 33) downstream of the introduction points (20, 21) to lengthen the path of the threads (12, 15) to modify the length of the ends of the threads (12, 15) to be unwound. The invention also concerns a device for carrying out such a method.
