An apparatus for constantly measuring mass variation of a longitudinal material in a continuous process of its manufacture requiring linear distribution and tracing the origin of defects and grading against established standards. The apparatus basically involves a sensor means to sense a linear mass distribution of the material at the various stages of processing in the continuous process of manufacture of the longitudinal material, means to compare the values with standards and means to achieve corrective measures based on the above comparative study to thereby ensure a controlled and uniform manufacture of the longitudinal material. The apparatus would find utility in the textile mill and in particular in the processing of the cotton in such mills to obtain uniformity in the yarn Various textile parameters may be monitored and controlled by way of effective use of the above apparatus.
