A safety lockout device for a level throttle control (10) of a vehicle has a rocker or toggle stop (20) which is mounted to be engageable with a throttle arm (1) to lock out movement of the arm (15). A release is connected (31) to the stop (20) so as to move the stop (20) against a restorative form applied by a biasing element (32) away from the arm (15) and permit the throttle to be operated. Upon the throttle arm (15) moving back to an idle position the biasing element (32) moves the stop (20) back to its lock out position.
