SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TRANSCODING BIT STREAMS

A data processing system buffers temporarily a portion of a plurality of compressed data streams. Each portion comprises one or more units of an encoded media signal. A switch provides selective connectivity between the buffer and a plurality of processors analyzing the one or more units of the encoded media signal in the buffer and generating statistical data about the encoded media signal. One or many transcoders are configured to decode a second portion of the compressed data streams, which includes units ordered ahead of the one or more units in the buffer, and then encode the second portion of the compressed data streams based on the statistical data. A controller receives the statistical data from the processors and directs the encoding of the second portion of the compressed data streams.
