The invention relates to a method and a device for surface blasting, particularly ultrasonically shot peening, gas turbine blades in the area of the roots thereof. The or each vibrator is oriented in such a way that the oscillating surface (13) thereof extends substantially in a horizontal direction. A processing chamber (14) for accommodating the or each blade root (15) that is to be processed adjoins the or each oscillating surface (13). According to the invention, said processing chamber (14) is configured such that the or each gas turbine blade (11) can be oriented for surface blasting in such a way that at least one profiled support area of the or each blade root (15), which is to be processed, at least temporarily runs essentially parallel to the oscillating surface (13) of the or each vibrator, especially the or each ultrasonic sonotrode, during the blasting process.
