A spectrometer is used during a thermal spraying process to measure the intensity of emitted light at specific wavelengths or specific wavelength intervals. The characteristics of the coating, for example the tensile adhesive strength (TAS) or the hardness of the coating, can be determined on the basis of a previously derived relationship. Process conditions can also be regulated during the monitoring of the process.
