A voltage-to-frequency conversion (VFC) device includes circuitry that generates pulses in response to received energy, circuitry that determines a whole number of pulses within a sampling period, and circuitry that determines fractional pulses within the sampling period. The VFC device is configured to output a digital value that is indicative of total flux density accumulated during the sampling period based on the whole and fractional pulses during the sampling period.
