A method, device and system for negotiating the bi-directional forwarding detection (BFD) session discriminator of pseudo wire is used to solve the problem that the processing procedure is complex as the BFD session discriminator of pseudo wire is negotiated by the LSP Ping in current PWE3 system. The method comprises: the second device receives the message for pseudo wire negotiation that is sent by the first device, the message for pseudo wire negotiation carries the BFD capability of Virtual Circuit Connection Verification (VCCV) of the first device's pseudo wire and the BFD discriminator; after obtaining the said BFD capability and BFD discriminator, the second device sends the message, which carries the BFD capability of Virtual Circuit Connection Verification (VCCV) of the second device's pseudo wire and the BFD discriminator assigned to this pseudo wire, to the first device if the pseudo wire of this side supports the BFD capability; otherwise, the second device sends the message, which carries the information about that this side doesn't support the BFD capability, to the first device. The negotiation procedure of the BFD session discriminator is simplified and the system pseudo wire setup and maintain efficiency is improved by utilizing the said method.
