The present invention relates to a system for determining a physiological status, such as the general health status or a disease, comprising means for determining metabolic data, means for converting the metabolic data in an input format, at least one database comprising reference metabolic data into a format which allows comparison to the input format, means for comparing the metabolic data in the input format to the reference metabolic data comprised by the at least one database and means for converting the results of a comparison carried out by the aforementioned means into an output format. Moreover, the present invention relates to a method for determining a physiological status comprising determining metabolic data, converting the metabolic data in an input format, comparing the metabolic data with reference metabolic data which are indicative for the physiological status which are stored in at least one database and converting the results of the aforementioned comparison into an output format.
