The method involves determining particle filter-efficiency factor (etaPF) based on upstream-particle flow that arises upstream before a particle filter (PF) and the flow that arises downstream after the particle filter. An error signal (F) is provided, when the particle filter-efficiency factor falls below an efficiency factor-threshold value (etaPFLim). An upstream-particle flow (msPvPF) is determined based on operating characteristics (n, mK) of an internal-combustion engine (10). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for diagnosis of a particle filter arranged in an exhaust side of an internal combustion engine (2) a computer program product comprising a program code for diagnosis of a particle filter arranged in an exhaust side of an internal combustion engine.
