The method involves providing a sample (1), and irradiating the sample with a predetermined spectrum of electromagnetic radiation. A reciprocal action between the sample and the electromagnetic radiation in a data set is detected. A characteristic parameter is determined from the detected data set. The characteristic parameter describes a quantity and size of a blister (3) on a surface of the sample.
