The compartment (100) has a unit for energy absorption for protecting a passenger, and an impingement surface for the passenger. Walls (104, 106) are formed for collapsing, which is telescopically carried out, where the walls are designed as housing walls and partition walls. The impingement surface is formed by a cover (122) that forms a part of the compartment. The cover is pivotably supported in side parts of the walls by a connecting unit (112), where the walls have a predetermined breaking point for telescopic collapsing. An independent claim is also included for a method o manufacturing a storage compartment.
