The method involves allowing a remote control (1) e.g. radio remote control, to adopt a condition in which the control does not cause a periodical transmission of unlocking data between the control and a vehicle. The control is allowed to adopt another condition in which the control causes the periodical transmission of the data between the control and the vehicle. The control is allowed to adopt the former condition after successful unlocking of the vehicle based on the transmission of the data between the control and the vehicle in the latter condition. An independent claim is also included for a remote control for unlocking a vehicle.
