An improved design driver airbag has an upper section (1A) with a wider profile to support the head and shoulders and with a smaller lower profile (1B) to support the breast. The upper profile accommodates the larger part of the deceleration force of the driver, resulting in reduced force on the breast, and thereby reducing the risk of damaging ribs and internal organs. The plan view of the deployed airbag has a triangular shape with upper wings to support the shoulders. The lower section can be made of a softer material, and/or is inflated to a softer level.
